From the late 1980s through the early 1990s, the sports card market exploded in popularity. Manufacturers printed cards in massive quantities, chasing the surge of collectors and speculators. This period became known as the "Junk Wax Era".
Because production was so high, the supply of these cards still far exceeds the demand today. While they hold plenty of nostalgia and are fun to collect, most Junk Wax Era cards have little to no monetary value in the current market—unless they’re in pristine condition, graded high by PSA or SGC, or feature a key rookie or rare variation.
At Trader Lays, we treat every card and collector with respect. These cards might not pay for your retirement, but they’re still a big part of the hobby’s history and a great way to introduce new collectors to the fun without breaking the bank.
